Ript is not just another four letter word nor is it just another four member active Rock / Metal outfit.
It’s a buzz that has been brewing for sometime around the Boston area club scene.
With their debut release FREAK IN THE SHEETS gaining attention and support from active rock radio stations throughout the Northeast corridor ((see below for complete radio station list)). RIPT has begun to blaze a path with their sonic message.
Bassist J BRYAN describes ‘Mental’ “like a run away train, a speeding ticket waiting to happen”. Lead guitarist / producer CLINTONE explains “producing this record was much like working out with a personal trainer, pushing to bring out the very best performances” as is evident on standout tracks such as ‘Freak In the Sheets’ with it’s seductive, infectious groove and ‘In A Perfect World’ that leaves the listener in awe over the lead guitar heroics. Let’s not forget the other side of RIPT which is right at home next to platinum selling acts such as Nickleback and Shinedown. Lead singer BILLY STEPHEN exclaims “I never gave up, I kept learning more and more” which forges the basic theme in the song ‘Still Alive (Featuring Mickey Kanan)’. Diving deeper into the human psyche on issues like suicide on the haunting ‘Why A Good Thing Never Lasts’. But even deeper than themes we all live everyday RIPT has taken it one step further by recording a track sung in ancient Sumerian, a language that has been dead for more than 4800 years titled ‘Nibiru 2012’ that can only be described as sounding like Ramstein summoning the gods from above with John Bonham himself laying down the groove as drummer TOM EMERSON recalls “I always loved Bonham’s style and feel, he set the bar for drummers everywhere”.
Great music has always been a sign of the times and RIPT is just that! A movement that has begun to gain momentum on a national scale by touching on sounds and lyrical issues we all relate to like the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the loss of loved ones, the spirit to follow ones dreams as well as bringing speculation on what the future may hold for humanity in December 2012.
Not since Led Zeppelin has there been a band so diverse until now…
